Tides Announces New Chief Operating Officer, Chief People Officer, and Chief Partnerships Officer
SAN FRANCISCO — Tides announces three new additions to its leadership team: Michael Mosby as its new Chief Operating Officer; Gwen Tillman as Chief People Officer; and Dan Shannon as Chief Partnerships Officer.
“I am honored to partner with Michael, Dan, and Gwen, three outstanding changemaking leaders who share Tides’ commitment to accelerate the pace of social change,” said Janiece Evans-Page, who joined Tides as CEO on January 4. “We will join the dedicated, accomplished team of Tidesters, who are enabling exponential impact around the globe. I can’t be more proud of Dan and Gwen’s decision to join Tides for this next chapter of accelerating social change work with systemic solutions, and of Michael for continuing his great work with the organization.”
Mosby has served in several roles since joining Tides in 2017, including Business Process Manager; Director, Business Process Redesign; and most recently, Interim Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Tides, Mosby spent more than 15 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he operated as a certified skilled leader, project manager, and facilitator in process and performance management, measurement, and improvement. In addition to the Laboratory, he has been recognized for building efficient and effective solutions for the Department of Energy and United States Army. Michael brought his knowledge and experience to Tides four years ago to help build solutions focused on accelerating the pace of social change.
“I believe we are all agents for social good,” said Mosby. “The most cherished moments of my life have involved being a part of efforts to make the world a better place. I couldn’t think of a better use of my time and my talents than to serve those in need through Tides.”
As chief operating officer, Mosby is charged with operationalizing the organization for impact, including developing approaches to implement efficient and effective service delivery mechanisms, proving the value of organizational solutions through data analysis, maintaining a system of continuous improvement based on interfacing with partners, building and leveraging internal process management and improvement expertise, networking with sector professionals to solve sector-wide challenges, and positioning the organization for sustained growth and relevance.
Tillman brings to the organization more than 15 years of experience working in nonprofits, and more than two decades of leadership honed while building and driving global people programs for premiere high-tech companies. In her most recent role as vice president of People Development & Community Engagement at AppDynamics, Tillman worked with leaders and employees at all levels across the business to grow and express their leadership in ways that are personally meaningful, while also generating the intended organizational outcomes. As a senior human resources leader with companies such as Mixpanel, SAP SuccessFactors, and Adobe Systems Inc., she worked directly with executives to create cultures that are true to the values of the organization and directed HR initiatives across global workforces.
“Saying yes to joining Tides was a personal and professional declaration of coming home to myself and my purpose,” said Tillman. “I am deeply passionate about contributing to the impact of Tides on systemic issues in our society and having each and every staff member see and feel the impact of their contributions in a way that is meaningful for them. We have a lot of amazing work ahead of us and I am excited, proud, and humbled to be a part of the team.”
As chief people officer for Tides, Tillman will be responsible for leading all aspects of Tides’ human resources, including designing and implementing people strategies and solutions for the organization and its key partners to strengthen capacity and deliver on their missions. She officially joined Tides on January 11, 2021.
In his most recent position as partner and managing director for Purpose, a leading social impact agency and consultancy, Dan Shannon oversaw the organization’s client service work, collaborating with mission-driven organizations to design and implement strategies and campaigns aimed at mobilizing people to take action and create meaningful change. With a background in non-profit campaigns, communications, and organizing, Shannon has led projects with U.S.-based civil rights organizations, including the ACLU and Anti-Defamation League, as well as INGOs focused on global poverty and human rights, such as UNICEF and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Prior to joining Purpose in 2011, Shannon spent 10 years leading campaigns and organizing for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
“For the past 10 years, I’ve developed social impact partnerships with public, private, and social sector entities at Purpose, and the behind-the-scenes strategies, systems, and processes to ensure those partnerships are successful and impactful,” said Shannon. “I’m excited to bring this experience to the already-great work the Tides team is doing, and to help ensure that Tides’ partners get the best possible support from our team to maximize the impact of their critically-important work.”
In his role as chief partnerships officer, Shannon will be responsible for leading Partner Services, Strategic Partnerships, Tides Collective, and Marketing & Communications, as well as growing and deepening engagement with partners, including leading Tides’ business development strategies. Shannon will officially join Tides on February 22, 2021.
“Tides is successful due to a high-caliber team motivated to work every day to accelerate the pace of social change,” said Tuti Scott, former interim CEO for Tides. “Michael, Gwen and Dan are formidable leaders in their respective fields and our partners and staff will benefit from their leadership. People and organizations driving bold change in the world are well served by Tides with these new leaders and Janiece driving the vision forward.”
