Peter Martin
Peter joined Tides as the Director of Philanthropy in 2018. In this role, Peter is responsible for delivering exceptional client service to Tides philanthropic partners and overseeing the philanthropic strategies of Tides Foundation. Peter has extensive experience developing grantmaking approaches focused on climate solutions, civic engagement, and democracy. He co-leads several pooled funds at Tides designed to mobilize resources to frontline, community-based organizations focused on movement and base building. Before joining Tides, Peter was a strategic philanthropic advisor to progressive HNWIs and family foundations. In that role, he helped establish new charitable entities and advised clients on their philanthropic plans, programmatic priorities, and grant-making portfolios. Previously, he served 15 years at the Sierra Club, including eight years as executive director of the Sierra Club Foundation. Peter currently sits on the board of directors of the Honnold Foundation, the public charity founded by climber Alex Honnold. Peter is also a founding board member of Children For Change, a local nonprofit in Marin County committed to creating a new generation of global citizens, empowered with knowledge and empathy to create positive change in the world. Peter lives in San Anselmo, CA with his wife Emily and two sons, Sam and Noah.
