Tides’ Statement on the SCOTUS Decision to Protect Medication Abortion

SAN FRANCISCO – Today, the United States Supreme Court ruled in U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine to protect access to mifepristone, upholding a fundamental right for birthing persons to access reproductive health care. As a philanthropic organization committed to systems change and ensuring the well-being of Black and Brown communities and other communities denied power, we acknowledge the importance of this decision in advancing reproductive justice.

On this historic day, Tides recognizes the extraordinary work of our donor and social change partners such as the California Coalition for Reproductive Freedom, the Lawyering Project, and the Resound Research for Reproductive Health, who provide legal assistance and evidence to improve access to reproductive health care including abortion care.

We call on our partners and the greater social sector to remain steadfast in championing reproductive freedom until all people have access to a safe abortion.
